(originally 15 Nov 2017)
Back in September Andrew sent me a text while I was at work telling me I needed to request to have November 13th off. I said okay, but I wanted to know why because my supervisor would want to know why. Andrew was acting very strange and said “say your going to a wedding” I was like what? Then he said, “say your brother is getting committed to the church” I was like what???” Then he said, “say you’re going to be in a wedding” I was like what?? Needless to say, I was totally confused. Despite the fact that I had no clue why Andrew wanted me to request the 13th off, I did.
And SURPRISE! WE WENT TO CALI FOR THE WEEKEND!
It was supposed to be a surprise but due to my job, Andrew ended up letting me in on the secret a little early. And I was ecstatic!
Anyway- Saturday we woke up early and headed for the airport. One of the things I was most excited about what finally flying on a plane with Andrew. For over two years it has been something the both of us have been looking forward to. We both love to travel and have both flown on our own many times over the past two years but this was the first time we got to fly together!
Saturday we drove from Ontario towards Los Angeles. The very first thing we did once we hit the road was grab lunch at In-n-Out! Andrew took me to In-n-Out for the first time in Dallas when we first started dating and I was totally not impressed. But I’ll be the first to say, California In-n-Out is the bomb!
Our first stop of the trip was The Griffith Observatory where we got to see the Hollywood Sign!! After we left the observatory we headed to Santa Monica! I’m not sure how I forgot that there’s a beach in California??? But I did. When it actually clicked in my head I was SO excited because I LOVE the beach. There are very few feelings better than the feeling of sand between your toes and the sound of the ocean. And bonus, we arrived just in time for sunset. It couldn’t have been more perfect. We spent the rest of our night in Santa Monica; at the beach, on the pier, and shopping around the local area. And we freakin saw a baby husky, which I’m pretty sure was the first one I’ve seen in real life!!!! I talked about it the whole trip.
Sunday we were up bright and early and hit the road for breakfast. We already knew where we wanted to have breakfast before we even left for California. A place called Eggslut. Kind of a weird name, right? But the food was incredible, and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t even like eggs!
We spent the rest of the morning in Hollywood, which was pretty fun! And then we spent the afternoon with Andrew’s family, I had never met majority of his family in Cali so it was a nice afternoon! We stopped by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to see the Urban Lights! Afterwards, we went back to Hollywood for the rest of the night and we’re totally beating ourselves up for not bringing our vlogging camera because Andrew got pulled into a street show! We watched “The Damn Team” (a dance group) perform and Andrew got pulled in for the grand finale- one of the dancers flipped over five people! Eventually we headed home and fell asleep watching a movie with Andrew’s cousin Lizette, who we stayed with during our visit to thank you Lizette!
We got up pretty early Monday morning to head back to the airport and make our way back to SA.
It was an incredibly fun weekend and I’m so thankful Andrew and I had a chance to get away before the craziness of the holidays hit. A special thank you to Andrew for booking and planning this trip, you really are the best! We got to explore a brand new place, even though it wasn’t brand new for Andrew, we had never gone together! We started our magnet collection of all our travels since living together! And the minute we stepped off the plane we were already talking about our next adventure! I can’t wait to go back and explore different parts of Cali in the future!
Andrew and I also filmed a travel recap of our trip to California and it’s really good! So make sure you check it out by clicking HERE.
