Hi! And welcome back (or welcome for the first time) to Be the Sunshinee!
Today’s post is all about how “Be the Sunshinee” came to life, the meaning behind my message, and what I hope to create.
Last week I shared the following picture with the following caption on my Instagram:
Last night I opened up and got a little more personal with yalll on my story. Expressing the overwhelming gratitude I feel for this life I live.
There are no words to express the gratitude I feel for FINALLY finding my passion and my purpose after years of feeling utterly lost and unworthy.
I again wanted to thank anybody and everybody who’s ever supported me, believed in me, and encouraged me!
This immense gratitude has been sitting on my heart ever since, and so I knew it was time to write this post. I want to open up to you about how I came up with the name of my blog and why it holds so much value to me.
I’ve opened up more than once on my blog about my struggles in the past (mostly in high school) dealing with extreme sadness, feeling like an outcast, feeling lost, and all-in-all being utterly unhappy.
Then on New Years Eve 2013 (right at the start of 2014… I still don’t know how to word that correctly) I discovered Mod Sun + the Law of Attraction through YouTuber Meghan Hughes. And from that moment on, my life changed forever.
(if you want to know more about that specifically, you can read that blog post HERE.)
It was literally an overnight switch where I became over the top positive. about everything. (My family use to tease me about it to be honest) and officially on March 2, 2014 I wrote myself a note on my phone that read “Happiest from this point on” and that was truly a life changing moment.
Fast forward through all the in between details; I fell in love with sunflowers. completely obsessed. For me, a bright yellow sunflower reflected happiest, and therefore, represented happiness. A few days before Christmas in 2014 I decided to get my sunflower tattoo on my left wrist.
I am also a girl of quotes. I love alllll the quotes. Mostly happy and inspiring quotes, but also relatable quotes, sad quotes, mean quotes, friendship quotes, family quotes, literally any quote. I just LOVE them. A quote I’ve seen and heard many times but didn’t really impact me in any way was, “If you can’t find the sunshine, be the sunshine.” I saw it, read it, added it to the quotes folder on my phone, and went on with my life.
Then last year my little sister graduated from high school and instead of buying her a gift, I wanted to make her something. My sister can sometimes struggle with being negative (at least back then) so I wanted to give her something positive she could display in her room. So I made her this sign:
And then a few months later I decided I wanted to rename my blog (Be the Sunshinee used to be known as The Brunette Blogger). I knew I wanted my blog to be centered around positivity and inspiration. Andrew threw out the idea of “Raye of Sunshine” since my childhood family nickname is Raye. And I LOVED it but it still didn’t seem quite right. I didn’t want the name to be totally centered around me. I wanted it to be bigger than myself. And just like all of my best ideas, Be the Sunshinee popped into my head, I completely fell in love, and this blog was born!
The message behind the meaning and what I am trying to create are sort of one in the same. I have always wanted to inspire others to live happy lives because I believe happiness to be a choice, so why would you choose to be unhappy? If you have the ability to take every situation and see something good in it, why wouldn’t you? I know life isn’t perfect all the time and I am not happy all the time. But it’s important to realize you have the ability to create your ideal life, so do it.
I want to teach others that is IS possible and I want to teach them HOW to do it.
I want to inspire others to inspire others.
I want to create a community of like-minded individuals that feel empowered + empower others. That feel encouraged + encourage others to create the life they’ve always dreamed of and to believe they deserve it. Because they do. YOU DO!
I want this blog and my Instagram to be a safe haven for those searching for MORE. Those who WANT MORE. Those who need inspiration, and encouragement, and a little helping hand. Because at some point, we all need a helping hand.
I believe and live by gratitude. Practicing daily gratitude and pursuing positivity has undoubtedly changed my life for the better and I want you to be able to do the same.
A community built on a profound passion for positivity, spreading joy, and helping others live a life they love.
A community that is on a mission to spread kindness, love, & gratitude like wildfire.
I want to help as many people as I can reach their happiest selves by changing the way they perceive the world around them + choosing to find the sunshine even in times of darkness.
So remember, if you can’t find the sunshine, be the sunshinee.
